Esplanade Ballroom (1991): a 6,500-seat plenary session meeting facility (50,000 sf) with a spacious atrium lobby. This 126,000 sf facility includes administrative, dining, mechanical and ancillary spaces, and sits atop the original convention center. M+L’s design of the facility’s long span steel framing received a James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation Award.

Moscone Center North (1992): a 507,000 sf underground expansion, with exhibit spaces, meeting rooms and support facilities. Three tunnels connect the new facilities to the original facility (Moscone Center South). The long span structural system of reinforced and post-tensioned concrete is designed to support street level buildings and gardens with loads up to 700 lbs/sf.
